The Rosetta Stone is famous for being the key to deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs. This artifact, discovered in 1799 by French soldiers in Egypt, features a decree written in three scripts: Greek, Demotic, and Egyptian hieroglyphs. The text on the Stone is essentially the same in all three scripts, allowing scholars, particularly Jean-François Champollion, to make breakthroughs in understanding hieroglyphs in the 1820s. The Stone dates back to 196 BC, during the Ptolemaic dynasty, and was instrumental in significantly advancing our knowledge of ancient Egyptian language and culture.
